Daffodil by Cecil Barr (Jack Kahane)

Obelisk Press  1938

This is the 18th and last issued printing by Jack Kahane and the Obelisk Press.  Daffodil was the leading selling English language book in Europe from 1931 through 1939.  This printing is desirable because it contains the entire Obelisk Press printing history of Daffodil.  The book is in good condition.  There is a two inch tear along the front cover/spine fold hinge.  The rear cover has been professionally re-attached to the book.  There is chipping to wrapper edges.

TROPIC OF CAPRICORN by Henry Miller

Obelisk Press  1945

This is the first post World War I I printing published by Maurice Girodias, (Kahane’s son).  Because it was printed using the same plates as the 1st  Edition / 1st Printing of 1939, many unknowing book sellers and book buyers believe this is the 1st edition/1st printing.  This is however the edition that many returning GI’s smuggled back into the states after the war.  Printed on acidic paper, the books are browned with age and are extremely brittle.  This copy is no exception.  There is lots of chipping to the page edges and the spine has experienced sunning.  However the book is in tact.  This is a great collectible.
